S5 Waves - Raising Awareness About Kingston's Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community

S5 WAVES consists of deaf adults, parents of deaf and hard of hearing children, children of deaf adults, deaf-blind, and parents who use American Sign Language (ASL) as mode of communication within their household.  "Everything we do is about our community. It’s about what our community wants. We try to make it happen," said Meyer. "We’re grassroots and community driven, we’re inclusive and diverse in our membership, and we’re governed by one-third hearing and two-thirds deaf."  We will also strive to organize and host community events which are designed and tailored by our membership’s needs. It is our hope that these hosted events will create business for local Deaf and HH individuals and artists, as well as other community nonprofits and charity organizations.
