The Rotary Four Way Test

Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  Will it be beneficial to all concerned

Rotary Reflection

For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!

Announcements

Bill Egnatoff: Community Service Projects Committee—Fall Community Project Grant Adjudication
Thank you to all who vetted the eight grant applications. By consensus, we chose to support three organizations to continue or become partners in service, each with a member of our committee to serve as liaison:

$2,000 to Kingston Interval House to expand laundry facilities to all floors and increase the capacity to prepare donated clothing for distribution; liaison Greta du Bois
$4,000 to our partner Kingston4Paws to acquire and train another service dog; liaison Elizabeth Cohoe
$3,000 to Outreach St. George's Kingston for food purchase for Lunch by George; liaison Heather Nogrady

Our presentation of cheques will be at our C-K Rotary meeting, November 17th where we will hear from a representative of each organization. We have asked each of these organizations to help promote our work and advertise our auction. Our liaisons will keep us abreast of how the funds are being used and how we can collaborate. Further details will be posted on our Web site.

Ana: Tipi Moza
Members are invited to support the preparation and offering of gifts to at least 41 children and youth, ages 1 to 20. Some Rotarians have already stepped up. The total cost is estimated at $1,500. Our club, thought the budgets of our Local Service and National sub-committees will contribute as needed. The young people who received gifts last year had many wonderful comments, such as, “Just what I was hoping for.” Santa will deliver gifts this year, by van. Donations can be made by e-transfer to chatter.fiedorec@gmail.com. In the message, put “Tipi Moza”. Let Ana know of how you would like to contribute: gifts, money, help. There will still be a gift-wrapping session either at Ana and Ed’s. Sean Goodall offered an alternative space. Deliver will be December 1.

Food Security Project. Isthmus and the Food Sharing Project have sufficient funds. We add person-power to pack and deliver.  Feed goes to about 350 families. Lionhearts supports the work with yoghurt for the food boxes, to increase protein. They are preparing between 700 and 800 meals per day. Their strong early donations are now waning. They are asking that the project provide them with at least one days worth of protein per club, $800. We decided to donate $6,400 from the food security $10,000 project reserve and are requesting $800 from each club. RC Frontenac has donated $1000, and an individual, $600. That will create at least 12 days of protein, giving them time to go to their donors. The Executive will discuss from where to obtain our contribution to Lionhearts.

Paul van Nest confirmed that the Kingston Club will contribute.

Individual contributions can be made by cheque payable to Rotary Club of Kingston, or by e-transfer to rotarykingston@gmail.com . These donors will receive a charitable donation tax receipt.

Centennial
A separate report on sustaining the environment by planting 100 trees will be provided separately.

Greg: Auction. We have 329 items, and a few more are trickling in. The hard work has been done. The sponsors have really come through. Now it’s up to us to get bidders active. Let Greg know about any issues with the Web site. Commercials are now airing. CKWS interviews are all taped, ready for next week and will be on their Web site as of tomorrow.

Robert: Cash calendars have been delivered. Happy to deliver to your door. We have until the end of December to sell them.

Murray Cotton: Please verify list of auction donations from John Farrow.
Concerning Tipi Moza: we won’t have a holiday dinner, so consider donating what you would otherwise have spent for that.

Murray: Executive will be monitoring personal donations to Food Security, which will reduce Club’s responsibility.
Paul van Nest: Peter Merkley will report back to our club on personal donations.

Tamás (Tom) Zsolnay was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, but has had the privilege of working and/or living in every region of this great country.
Tom paid his way through school by serving as an infantry officer in the Canadian Army Reserves. He continued to serve in various capacities on both a full and part-time basis, retiring with the rank of Colonel in 2014. Highlight of his military career include commanding the Canadian Grenadier Guards

Tom has developed and executed strategic long term fund raising plans that included annual appeals, capital campaigns, major gift, endowment and planned giving programs. Tom began his fundraising career with Navion, a consulting firm that supported clients across Canada.
He subsequently led fundraising and alumni relations teams at Concordia University, Laurentian University and the University of Victoria. Tom was appointed President and CEO of the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation effective 25 August 2019. Tom believes in giving back to his community and has volunteered with many organizations. A highlight of his volunteer activity has been his work with Rotary. Paul Jupp
I was born and raised in Kingston. Initially lived in North End, then  moved to Kingston Mills then back into Kingston as a teen, always in  the West End. I did spend 5 years in Belleville (moved back 3 years  ago) and other than that have been in Kingston my entire life.

After graduating High School I went to Queens for 2 years (Science)  and then switched to St.Lawrence College where I graduated with a 3  year Business program.

After graduating College (1991) I started employment with Trent Drugs  (Business/Finance Dept) where I remained for almost 25 years. I then  bought Playtrium and have owned/worked since mid-2013.

When I am not working or spending time with the family I enjoy  working with my hands, renovating my house or business and I also  enjoy designing and building things.

Chase the Ace!

The draw was won by Greg Mumford.  No joy, so the pot rises.
