The Rotary Four Way Test
Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned
Rotary Reflection
For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!

Heather Kembel: Evelyn and I had a great trip to Morocco. Teachers from North Spirit Lake, near Pekangicum were along, and it was great to hear their stories.
Murray Cotton: 46th wedding anniversary on Sunday. I’m still my bride’s starter husband. And she says we’ve had 38 good years!
Mara Shaw: Met new inbound student at the airport and they’re going to LaSalle Secondary. Karenna is off to Carleton, and loved her Rebound weekend. It was great for her to get to talk to others who have shared her experience.
Greg Mumford: loved waterskiing. Now 3, 6, 9, 13 year old grandkids are all on skis! Sutherland
Ana: 3 weeks of company over, but we finally got to go on the Kingston Penitentiary Tour. It was very interesting.
Bernie Allard: yesterday afternoon our neighbourhood had an ice cream party to welcome back a 9 year old girl who has been at Sick Kid’s in Toronto since May having a liver transplant. Her Dad was her donor. 60 people there to welcome her! She was going to be able to go to school today for an hour. Parents will be home schooling. Google ‘liver transplant’ to sign up to be a donor! Your liver grows back.
Elizabeth Cohoe: October 1st is the date for my hip replacement. :)

The following thank-you was received from H'Art School;
(supporting documents will be sent to all members)
Thank you for the generous support of Rotary Cataraqui-Kingston’s Community Service Grant of fall 2018. These funds helped us to move forward with the upgrading of our seating here in H’art Centre’s fully accessible theatre space, THE BOX. Your grant, along with our own fundraising efforts and our continuing partnership with The Conservatory, made it possible to purchase and install new seats.
THE BOX will now have 3 sets of tiered bleachers—which fold up for storage—capable of seating up to 76 people available for performances. This will help improve sight-lines in THE BOX and we will still have room to add floor seating as needed. We have attached our final report, along with photos of the equipment and the set-up that your grant has helped make possible. We will further publicly acknowledge the generous support of Rotary Cataraqui-Kingston in our fall newsletter and at our end-of-season finale in December 2019.
We truly appreciate all the support that you have shown us here at H’art Centre and thank you once again!
Sincerely,
Katherine Porter

Monday, Sept 30th is Orange Shirt Day – anti-bullying and anti-racism awareness. We’re hoping to have a relevant speaker either the Tuesday before or after. We’ll let you know. Robert Reid will distribute shirts and collect the $ some time mid-September.
HIP has requested a pic of us in our shirts!

PDG Jack Troughton has passed away on August 12th. There will be a service at St. Elias Centre in Ottawa on September 24th beginning at 11 a.m. Bernie Allard will represent our club.
John Farrow
We have four community Paul Harris Award nominations and that nominations are still open until September 30th.
Berine Allard reports that disappointingly, there are more than double the number of polio cases over last year – Afghanistan and Pakistan still remain an issue, but Nigeria will soon be certified Polio-Free.
October 24th is World Polio day – Rotary's role will be in the media. Interestingly, those countries with the Polio healthcare infrastructure are better able to deal with Ebola.

Adventures in History is in four weeks, and there is a need for billets. There is still room for six more students, and the program is still based on Youth Justice. Billets will be for the nights of September 25, 26, 27. Hosts will provide breakfast and transportation to and from the venue, although if transportation cannot be provided there can be assistance.
Other
There will be a fundraiser for Pathways to Education on October 3rd. The Springer Family is sponsoring the play, “The New Canadian Curling Club” at the 1000 Islands Playhouse. Tickets are $40 with all of it going to Pathways.
The Rotary Club of Kingston will be hosting a Pig and Corn Roast at Robinson Gardens on Sunday October 6th from 3 -7 p.m. Robert Reid has tickets which are $15, or $40 for a family. Children are $10, with kids under 10 being free of charge. Profits will be supporting a project called Isthmus, in which 200 backpacks of food a week are being provided to four north Kingston schools. This is a $25,000 project.
Auction
185 gifts in for the Auction. We obviously have a ways to go on getting more participants. We’re down on sponsorship over last year, so please speak with people and let us know! Sponsors pay our costs so all revenue from gifts goes to projects. Greg will work with Response IT to get our email list up and running on Mail Chimp for large distributions.
Bill Gray would like other members to approach many of his former donors. Outside of Bill’s donors, there are a lot of businesses that have participated in the past that are not in yet. Please send an email to Greg and Ed about any new businesses that are approached.

As mentioned at our last meeting I have been approached by Haran Vaseduv , a Rotaracter I met in Chennai in February at the home of my host.
Haran is connected to the Rotary Club of Chennapatna, the club of my host and with which we are involved in the breast cancer detection project. The club of Chennapatna is in turn is involved in our own Pathways project.
Haran is now in Canada and looking for a job. He is living in Oakville and would consider working in nearby cities. His CV will be forwarded to all club members.
Any help you could lend to this newcomer will be greatly appreciated.
Kindly reply directly to Haran.

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day – Robert Reid will distribute shirts and collect the money.
Ana Sutherland reminded members about the upcoming District Conference that will take place in Clayton NY on Friday and Saturday, November 1st and 2nd. The early-bird discount has been extended. This is an important event for networking with other Rotarians in the District.
There was a yard sale here over the weekend, so we put away our belongings. The Oddfellows apologized for the state of the premises – they were just too tired to finish the cleanup…….
Rotary year theme pins are available from Ana if you didn’t get one.
Rotary HIP (Honouring Indigenous People) newsletter is now electronic and we’ll send it with out to you with the Bulletin. 2nd season of First Contact on APTN Sept 17th to 19th. It's a show about folks who are immersed in indigenous culture – reality TV-like.
