Is it the truth?  Is it fair to all concerned?  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?  Will it be beneficial to all concerned

Rotary Reflection

For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!

Fun Master -

What day is it? Great Upheaval Day. Acadians in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick were ordered to leave. What year? 1755. When was the proclamation declaring it an official 'day'? Only recently, in 2003. The first celebration was July 2005. Ed Thompson noted that many expatriates settled in New Orleans. The proclamation was started from the town of Philadelphia.

Happy/Sad Bucks

John Gale: loves sailing  and happy to have his sailboat in the water

John Farrow: re Acadian upheaval, the Montreal airport had a display of first families who started the city. His wife, with her strong interest and expertise in genealogy immediately recognized her relation to quite a few of them; this Monday, is their 35th wedding anniversary.

Ana Sutherland: will be celebrating Ed’s 70th birthday Wednesday (Zoom with family)

Doug Hicks: Was able to get Terry out of Rosewood for a nice long drive to Jones Falls, including going past the turnoff! They really enjoyed the scenery. En route, they received a call from John gale, thrilling to Terry. He thanked Rick Fiedorec for faithfully going to see Terry, which he really enjoys. (Rick had mentioned that visits are now restricted to 30 minutes.) He’s now cleaning up Terry’s tablet and working on remote access.

Bill Egnatoff: Happy to have had a canoe outing with Joan Sunday to see from the water progress on the third-crossing bridge; happy to reconnect with Reagan Gale who’s an old friend of daughter Beth from Cantabile days; happy to be alive after a dream playing at his own funeral and chatting afterwards with musicians  friends; 38th wedding anniversary last week; pleased with the good report by Charity Intelligence on Rotary Foundation Canada.

Sean Goodall: got email from John Gale, thanks. Thanks to Robert for sending meeting link. First vacation this weekend—daughter’s wedding this weekend in Prince Edward County.

John Farrow: Received an email request from member of Orillia Rotary Club; Gord Hill will be joining them soon. John told them they’d be getting a great member.

Rick Fiedorec: BMO re Pathways project. Having difficulty getting information concerning the FAR project account, so went to actually make a $10 deposit to test the account. He explained the situation to the person helping him, who, with much interest, gave Rick a sheet with all the information needed to get money in from the USA. He’s back to doing a bunch of Ikea assemblies again.

At the Robinson Community Gardens, 8 a.m.-11 August 8, Rotarians, families, and friends, hopefully about 40, are welcome to come to harvest, clean, and box vegetables. COVID-19 precautions include sign-in, wearing masks (bring your own if possible), and gloves. The rain date is August 9th.

Auction: Greg Mumford
The auction is rolling. He’s not hearing how people are doing and has had mixed reactions from donors he is approaching. Time is short; we need to move. We’ll need as many sponsors as possible so please get ideas to Murray Cotton.
Elizabeth asked whether someone would do Kelsey’s and John Gale agreed.
Bill Egnatoff showed an extra gift from Reddendale Pharmacy, a Happy Head Massager!
John Gale reminded us that this is our opportunity to be of service in our community, and leads to all the fun stuff we’re doing.

President's Announcements

President John received an update on  the Krishnagiri project -
one of our earliest projects in India.  We made a significant financial
contribution to the project and Bill Gray was very instrumental in
organizing the international portion of the funds.  We weren't eligible to
be the international partner for the project since not all of the required
members of our executive had taken the training mandated by our District
and TRF.

Dear Partners,
You will be happy to know our above project has received recognition of
Rotary International as a Significant Achievement. On behalf of the host
club, RC of Madras Coromandel, I thank you for your support. Some of you
have visited the project and seen for yourselves the transformation the
project has led from the trial phase. After its impressive results, our
project partner, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development
(NABARD) has included a few more villages under the project scope. It now
covers 8 villages benefiting about 15,000 residents in 2,736 households.
The watershed area alone is 1673 ha of which 1188 ha is under treatment.

In addition, we have completed livelihood projects with a total outlay of
INR 3.16 million or about USD 42,000. These were mainly part funding of
milch cows for 50 women and 20 Juki tailoring machines equipped Rotary
Training Centre, training in dairy management and tailoring, provision of
20 solar powered street lights and a solar powered UPS to the village
school.

Success of the project at the villages is mainly due to the local support.
Farmers and non-farm labour work for this project and are benefited from
the very start. Village women have positively responded to the opening of
drought-stricken fields to cultivation, rise in living standards,
opportunities to supplement their income through dairy farming and
employment in garment making units, fodder development and general
improvement in village infrastructure.

Attached Annual Report for the year April 19 to March 20 provides a
detailed progress of the various activities of the project, a few
photographs and the audited statements. I have also attached the 2019-20
Progress Report submitted to the Rotary Foundation.

Besides the RI recognition, our project has also been adjudged the best
watershed project in the State of Tamilnadu by NABARD.

We invite you, after Covid-19 times, to visit the project to appreciate
the magnitude, scale and progress of the project.

Regards,

G Balasubrahmanyan (Bala)
