Rotary Reflection

For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For peace in a world where many walk in fear
For friends in a world where many walk alone
And for the opportunity to serve others through Rotary,
May we be truly thankful!

Fun Master - Sean Goodall

Sean raised some money using tricky questions about the club website, and then using screen share, switched to a moving presentation about Black History Month.  He then invited everyone present to make a donation in honour of Black History Month.

Happy/Sad Bucks

Bill Egnatoff thanked Sean for the wonderful presentation that he made to frame our meeting, noting that “we are the change”.  Greg Mumford for Ana and Ed’s online Super Bowl party.  John Gale was sorry that last week he ate Jeri’s chocolate centerpiece, but was happy about his recent change in internet providers.  Everything is hooked up and working well.  Greta was sorry that he had to miss the Community Service Committee meeting yesterday, but happy that she didn’t have to drive to this meeting today.  John Richards thanked Sean for his reflection on Black History Month, and was appreciative of the job that Robert Reid does heading up the cash calendar sales because he just received a cheque for $250 in the mail!  Lise and Michelle also expressed thanks to Sean for his presentation which was very inspiring.  Michelle is very happy that the Kingston region will be moving back to having fewer restrictions with regard to the pandemic.

From the City of Kingston ….. the idea of  challenging Rotarians to support environmental initiatives with money saved due to the impact of Covid-19...
"Donate your gas savings to double your impact
Reducing waste helps reduce the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) that are changing our climate.  So does driving less – and taking/supporting climate actions.
Are you driving less due to COVID-19? Donate some of the money you have saved on gas to the Kingston Climate Action Fund to double the impact of driving less. Direct your donation toward one, or both, of these local climate actions:
Habitat for Humanity is seeking $26,000 to install air source heat pumps its clients in four new townhomes on Rose Abbey Drive.
Martha's Table is seeking $45,000 to purchase an electric vehicle to serve.

Queen's Rotaract Club Pie Day (March 14th)
As many of you will know, the Queen's Rotaract Club has typically run a made-to-order pie sale during the month of March in order to raise money for Easter Seals. However, the covid-19 pandemic has seen us revamp our event into something new and exciting. Thus, I present to you, the Queen's Rotaract Pie Day Baking Competition! This is a competition where we invite anybody from the community and beyond to submit a picture of their pie, alongside a minimum donation of $5, for a chance to win one of four fabulous prizes.

The instructions for entry are as follows:
Step 1: E-Transfer a donation of $5 or greater to queensrotaract@gmail.com (we have auto deposit enabled, so no need for a password)
Step 2: Fill out the google form linked on our event FB Page. Please give your name, email, social media account name, and confirm that you've donated.
Step 3: Post the pie to your social media of choice (FB, Instagram, etc) alongside the hashtag #Pies4ES

Submissions will be judged according to 4 categories:
  1. Design
  2. Tastiness
  3. Creativity
  4. Bribery (highest donation)
Winners of categories 1-3 will receive a $10 gift card of their choice, while the winner of category 4 will receive an ironic certificate and congratulatory social media post.

Here's the link to our Facebook event page: https://fb.me/e/3Nmr31sWd

This weeks program - Communicating Through Our Club Website

Bill Egnatoff reviewed the proposed agenda and led things off with a brief demonstration, using screen sharing, about how we can get to know each other better through the website.  He highlighted the member information section and encouraged everyone to post a biography there.  At that point we went into breakout groups for a brief time of sharing our stories.
Bill did another tour of the website that demonstrated what is there and how to get to some key information.
We need to improve the use of the calendar by posting committee meetings, noting that it is possible to add a Zoom link.
In a second breakout, small groups discussed the website.
The club website is still under development and members are encouraged to share their input with Greg Mumford and Jim Rymerson.
Information about projects needs to be submitted by those involved.
Not everything in the program was covered today, so we will visit other topics soon.
Feedback from members at the meeting summary indicates that the breakout rooms are a great way to get to know each other, given that we can't chat at tables over breakfast like we do at in-person meetings.

Chase the Ace!

As we have less that a full year (52 weeks) left in the Rotary year, we are going to have two draws a week.  The first will be for $10 and a chance to win the jackpot.  The second will be for the jackpot only.  To win the jackpot the Ace of Clubs must be drawn.
The first draw this week was won by Robert (Lucky) Reid, and the second by Michelle Chatten-Fiedorec, but no one drew the Ace of Clubs
