RYLA (Student Youth Leadership Awards), Interact, Adventures in Citizenship and a dinner with MPP Ted Hsu were topics of the student reports

Kolson Shunk spoke first on the Adventures in Citizenship Program which took place in Ottawa. He said,

We engage in a variety of activities related to civics and citizenship, such as presentations from well-learned and respected people from across Canada, a visit to Parliament, a tour of Ottawa, and a citizenship ceremony in the company of almost 300 other students from across Canada”.

Rami Rosa and Serenidy Pyke were next and spoke on RYLA, a Rotary Club program on Leadership development. Rami said that he enjoyed singing the song the group created and because he likes acting, the skit they did to end the symposium. Serenity, meanwhile, focussed on the students she met across Canada & America, the conflict resolution exercise, the skit and how she gained in confidence and lost her nervousness.

The next couple to report, Sam Prevost and Sarah Monaghan, two Interactors, spoke about having dinner with Kingston MPP, Ted Hsu an event arranged by the C-K Rotary Club. Sam said, “I learned a lot about the dynamics within the political party and the day-to-day life as a politician.” Sarah, on the other hand said, “We talked about ‘electoral reform’ and about staying informed and I was inspired to get involved in politics.”

The final speakers were Lylia Erissaddam and Priya Jugoon, copresidents of the Kingston SS Rotary Interact club. Lylia reported that Interact was an “amazing experience and a great way to give back to our school”. Both said they “love volunteerism”. Priya described the kind of events they had to raise funds for charity projects. She said, “We made pretzels, and we sold them at the Holiday Bazaar and that helped buy lunch cards for students.” Other fund raises helped the Interact Club “sponsor kid’s education in the Middle East “. Priya made the C-K Rotarians feel good when she told them “I think that the Interact Club has helped us and taught us how to be better leaders.”

All the students were from Kingston Secondary School. Their teacher advisor, Katherine Brouillard was also in attendance and thanked the club for their support
