We Support Youth Initiatives

Working with Youths is our most important area. We support youth at the Community, national, and International levels. Here are five significant ways the Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston serves youth in the Kingston area:

  1. Sponsors Interact Clubs in local high schools
    • The club sponsors the Interact Club at Kingston Secondary School, where students aged 12–18 develop leadership skills while organizing community service and international service projects. It also supports the expansion of Interact programs to other local schools.

  2. Funds students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
    • Each year, the club sponsors three local students (ages 15–17) to attend the District 7040 RYLA leadership camp. Participants receive training in leadership, communication, ethics, conflict resolution, decision-making, and community engagement.
  3. Provides educational “Adventure” opportunities
    • The club sponsors Kingston-area students to participate in Rotary’s educational programs, including:
      • Adventures in Citizenship in Ottawa, where students learn about Canadian government and leadership.
      • Adventures in High Technology, which introduces students to careers in science and technology.
        These experiences help youth explore career paths and develop leadership skills.
  4. Offers international youth exchange experiences
    • Through the Rotary Youth Exchange program, the club helps local students ages 15–19 participate in short- and long-term exchanges abroad. These exchanges promote cultural understanding, language learning, independence, and global citizenship while hosting international students in the Kingston community.
  5. Supports Indigenous youth leadership and reconciliation
    • The club promotes and sponsors participation in the National Youth to Youth Truth and Reconciliation Experience, a fully funded program that brings together Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth from across Canada. Participants learn about Indigenous cultures, history, and reconciliation while building leadership and intercultural understanding. 

Together, these initiatives demonstrate the Cataraqui-Kingston Rotary Club’s commitment to helping local youth develop leadership, service, career awareness, cultural understanding, and community involvement.
